Robert Rodriguez Says 4-D Movie “Spy Kids 4” Is Ready to kick 3-D’s Butt

When 3-D was new on the cinematic scene, it used to provide a major boost to the movie’s box office performance. It still does that, but at a lesser intensity, as everyone now knows what a 3-D movie is all about and so the viewers’ interest is falling in this technology. So everyone could do with a little freshening up of things and director Robert Rodriguez has done just that.
The fourth installment of Rodriguez’s Spy Kids franchise will have a brand new 4-D feature that will reignite the cinemagoers’ interest. But what exactly is a four dimensional movie? A new ‘smell’ feature powered by something called “Aroma-scope.”
Speaking in an interview with MTV, the Desperado-director explained, “Instead of just going 3-D like we did on the last one, we brought in 4-D, which is a very fun gimmick that I found in this old movie in the ’80s. It’s kind of a scratch-and-sniff [experience] and you get to be really, almost like a video game, interactive with the movie. There are some really surprising smells, and some of the biggest laughs come from that.”
