Pride! Our Government Finally Promises Some Foreign Aid To Promote Gay Rights

This is such a momentous step in the right direction.
Better late than never!
The gay community should feel some pride for the Obama administration as the President issued a memorandum today announcing that the U.S. will use a wide-range of efforts to promote rights for gay and lesbians around the world. President Obama has direct his U.S. agencies abroad to being using tactics to compact attempts by foreign governments to criminalize homosexuality and to give much needed assistance to gay refugees seeking asylum from their governments.
In a statement about his new initiative, Obama said:
"The struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States' commitment to promoting human rights."
Amen!
Leading the charge for this new policy is U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who spoke in Geneva today to a group of follow diplomats about changing cultural practices or religious tradition that cause endangerment to the gay community. In her speech, Clinton spoke strongly of the defense of gay rights and likened the plight to women's rights and racial equality, categorizing them all as universal human rights.
