The Catholic Church is defending Pope Benedict XVI from accusations of covering up sexual abuse scandals, but it's become increasingly difficult due to the media coverage.
And they're singling out the New York Times for "targeting the whole church, targeting the pope, and to that we must say `no' in the name of truth and in the name of justice," said Warsaw Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz.
Vienna's Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn also claims that Benedict "had a very clear line of not covering up but clearing up."
He continued:
"I admit that I often feel a sense of injustice these days. Why is the church being excoriated? Isn't there also abuse elsewhere? … And then I'm tempted to say: 'Yes, the media just don't like the church! Maybe there's even a conspiracy against the church?' But then I feel in my heart that no, that's not it."
The Vatican's daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, claims that these accusations are a "clear and despicable intention" by the media to strike at Benedict "at any cost."
And in the article posted on the Vatican's site on Wednesday, Cardinal William Levada, wrote, "I am not proud of America's newspaper of record, The New York Times, as (Read more...)

You'd think by now that people would realize that teenagers are going to experiment with sex no matter WHAT, so we might as well try to help them be safe and educated!!
Well, clearly not.
The Catholic Church is bugging out over the decision to install condom vending machines in a high school in Rome, but the administration is sticking to their guns and hoping it will curb teen pregnancy and the spread of HIV!!
Bravo!!
Statistics in Italy have shown that teen pregnancy and the numbers of young people contracting HIV have been steadily on the rise. On average, most Italian girls lose their virginity at 16 - and almost one in FOUR of them are not protected while doing so!!
Of course, the pope's vicar in Rome, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, has a much different opinion on the matter, and thinks the move "cannot be approved by Rome's ecclesiastical community or by Christian families who are seriously concerned with the education of their children."
We think it's time they seriously STOPPED looking at it as a moral issue and understood the health risks of uneducated teenagers ready to start experimenting!!
Antonio Panaccione, the school's headmaster, was having NONE (Read more...)

She's back!
Infamous 90s singer Sinead O'Connor is pissed at the Catholic Church - and we totally get it! Irish bishops are asking parishioners for $$$$ to compensate children who were sexually abused by priests!
WTF?! Not only is it insulting to think that money will fix anything, but why should members of the church be paying for it?!
Bishop Denis Brennan from Dublin asked members of the church to help in paying £13.8 million in settlements to victims.
Disgusting.
In an open letter to several Irish newspapers, O'Conner wrote:
"If Christ was here, he would be burning down the Vatican. And I for one would be helping him. How long do they expect us to restrain ourselves? We have put up with this bull dung for hundreds of years.
A true Christian is someone who, in any given situation, is supposed to ask themselves what would Jesus do, then try to do that. How an organisation which has acted, decade after decade, only to protect its business interests above the interests of children can feel it has the right to dictate to us what Christians should do is beyond belief."
Amen.
