Catherine Zeta Jones ‘furious’ at Michael Douglas diagnosis delay

[HMG Celebrity News] – In a sequel to yesterday’s story on Michael Douglas and his battle with cancer, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones has now told reporters she’s ‘furious’ at the Doctors who failed to spot the disease.

Catherine, 40, who married Douglas in November 2000, said her 65-year old husband had complained of pain in his ears and throat for some time, but the walnut-size tumor was only found three weeks ago.

“It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier,” she told the Mail. “He sought every option and nothing was found.”

But Catherine wasn’t greatly surprised when the cause of Michael’s discomfort was finally found.

“It wasn’t a huge shock,” she recalled. ‘I knew something was up. He knew something was up.”

Mr. Douglas has since begun an intense eight-week course of chemotherapy and radiation, but the cancer is now at stage four – meaning it’s grown, and spread to his neck and other parts of his head. Which is far more dangerous.

But while Catherine is furious about his delayed diagnosis, her husband seems more understanding.

Fantasia Barrino claims suicide attempt ‘no accident’

[HMG] – In an unwholesome blend of insincere ‘Mea Culpa’ and hype for her CD, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino now claims her recent overdose was no accident – She wanted to die.

“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” the singer tells VH1. “I wanted it to be over with. I just sat in the closet, looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I knew what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.”

Barrino’s manager, Brian Dickens, recalls the stress of finding her slumped on the floor;

“She’d been crying all day.” he recalls. “She texted me, saying ‘I love you.’ I wrote back, ‘I love you more.’ Then it hit me.”

He sent another text telling her not to do something stupid. The reply read, “I already did.”

“I went into her room, saw her on the floor, and my heart just dropped,” Dickens tells People.

So what – other than free, global publicity and trying to hide her affair – made the singer attempt this dramatic finale?

Michael Douglas’ throat cancer could leave actor mute

[HMG] – We reported earlier this week that Michael Douglas is now fighting cancer. But experts now say this particular version could cost the Oscar-winning actor his voice.

A smoker for decades, Mr. Douglas, 65, was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his throat. His doctors have since begun a ’synchronous’ therapy, which involves surgery, followed by eight-weeks of chemotherapy and radiation to kill any remnants.

The Mail says his doctors regard the tumor’s advanced stage ‘quite frightening.’ They expect he will make a full recovery, but have warned Douglas that destroying the tumor may harm his voice.

And the Doctors still won’t say what type of cancer it is. And that’s worrying – if the tumor is in the vocal chords his chances of survival after five years are around 60%. Or 80% if it was caught early.

But if it’s throat cancer the 5-year survival rate is just 5-percent.

“Smoking probably caused the cancer. But the fact he’s getting radiation means it’s curable,” Dr. Kenneth Hu, co-director of the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York told Good Morning America. “It tells you that it’s probably an intermediate stage cancer.”

Michael Douglas has throat cancer

(HMG) – Michael Douglas’ rep Allen Burry, has told People magazine that the Oscar-winning actor has been diagnosed with a tumor in his throat.

Douglas, 65, will begin eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment,  according to Burry and his doctors expect the actor to make a full recovery.

“I am very optimistic,” Douglas said in a statement.

This probably will impact Michael being able to promote his latest movie, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” due to open in theaters Sept. 24.  But small potatoes compared to getting through this ordeal and regaining his health.  And we wish him a speedy recovery.

Zsa Zsa Gabor requests last rites

(HMG) – Zsa Zsa Gabor, who came home from the hospital Wednesday, has returned to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was admitted to the hospital on Friday to treat two blood clots.  Since then the 93-year-old actress’ condition has been fading and reports are last night she was read last rites by a priest.  Gabor originally broke her hip on July 17 when she fell out of bed while watching the television game show “Jeopardy,” said her publicist John Blanchette.  Her husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, was at her bedside, and she was talking through Saturday–their 20th wedding anniversary.  But her condition worsened Sunday morning and

“She asked for the priest this morning,” her longtime publicist, John Blanchette said. “The priest came in and gave last rites.” She had not talked after that and was being fed through a tube, he said.  The Hungarian-born Gabor has appeared in more than 30 movies, and her penchant for marrying wealthy husbands and calling everyone “dah-ling” in her Hungarian accent made her a well-known Hollywood personality.

Fantasia Barrino Reportedly Hospitalized for Overdose

(HMG) – Fantasia Barrino who was recently in the headlines, accused of making a sex tape with a married man and destroying his marriage, was rushed to a North Carolina hospital last night where she was treated for a “medication overdose,” according to Newschannel 36, via RadarOnline.  Barrino’s condition was reportedly not life threatening, but no word on whether the OD was intentional or accidental.

Barrino, the season three American Idol winner, was recently sued by wife, Paula Cook saying the affair began in August last year when Fantasia met her husband, Antwuan Cook at a T-Mobile store in North Carolina and began what her lawsuit now calls their “covert adulterous affair.”

North Carolina law permits those who can prove adultery to sue the person with whom their partner had the affair. So Fantasia could soon owe Paula millions.  Supporting Paula’s claim, RadarOnline.com has uncovered lost photos showing the singer and her married beau, Antwaun Cook, getting hot and heavy — eight months ago in Barbados!

Lindsay Lohan rehab success doubtful, experts say

[HMG] – Having served just 14-days of her 90-day sentence for probation violation, Lindsay Lohan has now entered rehab to rebuild her life. Again. But experts say the three-month detox course has little hope of success.

The 24-year old former actress is now a resident at UCLA’s ‘Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital’ in Westwood, California, but her own lawyer’s description of the facility shows her hopes of success look very slim.

“Ms. Lohan is not in a locked unit,” says Shawn Chapman Holley. “It’s a section of the hospital that treats normal people with various issues. Her doctors are looking at what prescriptions she is taking, and whether the dosages need to be modified or stopped.”

This is the same facility that successfully helped Britney Spears during her meltdown in 2008. But experts say Lindsay is facing a very tough climb.

“I think this is the first time she’s getting serious professional help,” Clare Kavin, director of the rapid-detox program ‘The Waismann Method,’ told the News. “For Lindsay to have a future there’s a lot of work to be done, not just with her but with her family.”

Zsa Zsa Gabor ‘in critical coma like condition?’

(HMG) – After being hospitalized last week following a fall, and undergoing surgery for a broken hip Zsa Zsa Gabor is in critical condition, according to her spokesperson. The 93-year-old Hungarian-born actress was reported to have been recovering from hip replacement surgery, Monday when she possibly suffered a stroke. Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, told publicist John Blanchette his wife also suffered a very severe concussion from the original fall reaching for the phone. von Anhalt says that his wife is technically not in a coma, but that she is not responding to human contact. “She hasn’t talked. She wasn’t speaking. They were worried about that. They took her off morphine to see if that might be the cause,” Blanchette said. “She’s vacant.” “The doctors want to observe her over the weekend to make sure her condition improves, but right now it is not looking good,” von Anhalt said.

However Zsa Zsa’s daughter Constance Francesca Hilton contradicted that later Friday in a statement to Reuters: “She is not in a coma. She is not on any kind of death watch. She is responsive and on medications. All vital signs are still going strong, and she is talking.”
