Sad news out today that two great filmmakers — cinematographer Mike deGruy and Australian television writer-producer Andrew Wight — were killed in a helicopter crash in Australia over the weekend. Both of the men were specialists in underwater documentary (Mike worked with James Cameron on the epic, Titanic.) Read on for more of the news..

James and Mike were good friends, and they worked together on Titanic. He was also the director of undersea photography for Cameron’s 2005 Last Mysteries of the Titanic.
“The deep-sea community lost two of its finest” with the deaths of the two underwater documentary specialists. David Bennett, president of Australia’s South Coast Recreational Flying Club, said the pair had set off to film a documentary when they crashed.” “Mike and Andrew were like family to me,” Cameron said. “They were my deep-sea brothers and both were true explorers who did extraordinary things and went places no human being has been.”

Last night MTV aired the documentary special Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale which gave viewers an inside look at Britney in the studio, Britney at home, Britney enjoying a bit of downtime with her BFF assistant Brett Miller and Britney on the performance stage. Inter-cut with the “day in the life” footage of our dear Britney, she was also featured answering questions for MTV interviewer Sway. It should come as no surprise that I LOVED the special entirely. While it may not have been as in-depth as I would’ve liked, we did get to see a lot of great behind-the-scenes footage of Britney in the studio with will.i.am (which felt staged, to be honest) and on the set of her upcoming new video for Till the World Ends. Yesterday we got our first tease of the new MTV special documentary Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale and today we get to see a couple clips and a full length trailer for the special, due out on Sunday night. Additionally, Britney gave an interview to NYC radio station Z100 and talked a bit about her upcoming tour (tho, not about who she may be touring with). Check out all the clips below!

To be honest, I doubt we’ll really get any insight as to what is really going on with Britney these days … this special is clearly just a way to promote the release of her new album. Still, I can’t wait to see it. I simply cannot get enough of Femme Fatale. It’s just a fantastic album. On Sunday we learned that MTV is planning to air a documentary special titled Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale that will feature behind the scenes footage of Britney‘s whirlwind weekend of promo appearances leading up to the release of her new album Femme Fatale — IN STORES TODAY. On Friday night, Britney Spears performed 2 mini-concerts at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV that were filmed by MTV for an upcoming documentary special to promote the release of her new album Femme Fatale (due out on Tuesday). In addition to filming her live performances, MTV also filmed some behind the scenes footage that will also be featured in her upcoming MTV special.
