American Idol EP Nigel Lythgoe Doesn’t Sweat The Competition Or The Falling Ratings

Published on February 7, 2012 By

In fact, he laughs in the face of those other "singing" shows!

This morning, during a press conference call, Nigel Lythgoe held nothing back when talking about the current standing of American Idol and defended it with everything he had in him. When the topic of declining ratings came up, he was quick to point out that the show, now in its 11th season, would always be "compared to itself" and while may not perform like the it did, it's still the "number one show on TV." Personally, he thinks the problem isn't AI, but the over-saturation of the market. He explained:

“We’ve got The Voice and X Factor going now, and we’re all feeding from the same talent pool and of course the same ratings pool…We’d always said we would never two Idols in a single year, and this is why. Now we have X Factor sitting there, and it feels just like Fox is doing two Idols a season. Add to that The Voice and of course there’s going to be viewer fatigue, as much you see when you have too many science fiction dramas or too many hospital dramas on television.”

He makes a valid point. (Read more...)

Sutton Foster’s New TV Drama Lands On ABC Family

Take her name off the marquee -- New York's sweetheart is heading to La La Land!

It's been confirmed that ABC Family has picked up the Sutton Foster–led drama Bunheads, created by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman Palladino. The show will feature Sutton as a former Las Vegas showgirl named Delores Van-Cartier who leaves the glitz of the strip to work as her her mother-in-law's small-town dance studio.

As this marks Sutton's first major stint on television, we're nothing but happy for her, but we're sure the bright lights of Broadway are going to miss her terribly!

Enjoy this girl -- but come back to the Great White Way soon!!

Now that's how you kick off a show!

Last night, the premiere of SMASH debuted on NBC and those of you who resisted the temptation of downloading the pilot on iTunes and watching it OnDemand finally got a chance to see it in all it's glory. We invite anyone who wants to to disagree with us, but in our opinion, that might be the best drama pilot episode of a new series since Lost. The talent, the story, the music -- it all fit together so seamlessly and brilliantly. Stand outs for us included the impeccable, scene-stealing efforts of the legendary Anjelica Huston and the captivating voice of Megan Hilty, whose character wasn't who we thought she would be -- and we were pleasantly surprised by that.

But enough about our thoughts. We want to get yours! And in order to do that, we'd like to share with you all the performances from last night's pilot episode! Check out the video (above) to watch Let Me Be Your Star, the closing number to the pilot. Then CLICK THE JUMP to watch all the rest of the sensaltional performances!

And now, the money question: What did U think? (Read more...)

Four million viewers big! Phew!

Last night’s episode of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta was missed by very few fans of the franchise. Nearly 4 million viewers tuned in to see NeNe Leakes and the girls live out their dramas (and spend their $$$), making it the second most watch episode in franchise history!

Add on to that that Andy Cohen and his late night talk show Watch What Happens Live delivered 1.6 million total viewers, marking a season high among all key demos on Sunday, we say it was a pretty good night for Bravo!

No joke, we love vampire movies. And we're obsessed with Tilda Swinton. Put them together, and we're as happy as happy can be!

Tilda joins forces again with director Jim Jarmusch for his latest film about two vampires who have been in love for centuries, but have encountered nothing but problems. Only Lovers Left Alive also stars John Hurt, Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston in the flick that is being dubbed a romantic horror drama.

Nice! We like the combination of those words!

Time to fang out, Tilda! We're looking forward to it!

But in case some of U missed it... here's a recap!!

On last night's Kourtney and Kim Take New York season finale, Kim lost it. Completely lost it!

After everything inside finally boiled up, Kim went fleeing into the secret make-up room and bawled her eyes out. (We'd be shocked if her eyes didn't sting after all those mascara tears!)

That's when Kourtney came in. And Kim just let it loose:

It is hard for me! He's a good heart, he's a Christian – everything on paper I want in someone, but for some reason, my heart isn't connecting.

I feel awful that I made him move out here and change his whole life. I feel sad, I feel bad for the guy. He feel in love with me and I fell in love with him and now all my feelings have changed.

I invited all these people to this huge wedding and flew everyone out, wasted everyone's time and everyone's money – everyone's (Read more...)
