Rob Lowe to buy Miramax?

[HMG] – On June 29 rumors emerged that Rob Lowe and his business partner, Tom Barrack had a big hush-hush deal that would see Rob reborn as a media mogul. Well, the rumors seem true – they now want to buy Miramax.

Insiders told TMZ that Rob and Tom, plus construction magnate Ron Tutor have agreed all the numbers, and have now launched a $500-million bid for Bob and Harvey Weinstein’s world-famous firm.

Their plan is to create “a multi-platform media company, similar to DreamWorks,” says one source. In English that means they’d make movies, TV shows, web sites and games.

But they’ve got competition – another major bidder is the group behind ‘Twilight’ – Summit Entertainment. But their bid is not thought to be firm at this point.

After severe money troubles, Miramax was finally closed and absorbed by its parent company, Disney on January 28. But reports say Rob and his buddies could close the deal as soon as today and bring the firm back to life.

Cristiano Ronaldo is new son via a surrogate mom

[HMG] – When fans of Real Madrid soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo heard he was a father, they were surprised. When it was rumored he had his new son by a surrogate mother his supporters were shocked. But he confirmed the news via Twitter

“I have recently become father to a baby boy,” reads the linked post. “As agreed with the baby’s mother…my son will be under my exclusive guardianship. No further information will be provided on this subject”

The mother, whose name Cristiano will not discuss, delivered the 9lb 8oz boy in New York recently. Ronaldo now plans to raise the child in Spain, where he’s played for Real Madrid since June of last year.

Cristiano’s sister, Katia Aveiro told the press the 9lb 8oz boy ‘is the spitting image of his daddy.’

Sources close to the 25-year old father say Cristiano, who earns $14-million a year for his work on the field, wanted the child because “he has millions and a great career, but he didn’t have a child.” His mother, Dolores Aveiro, will also help care for the boy.

James Bond movie cancelled indefinitely by MGM debt

[HMG] – Since James Bond first graced the screen in 1962’s ‘Dr. No,’ each film has become an international event. But with MGM $3.6-billion in debt, Mr. Bond and his Martinis are now firmly on ice.

The next movie, code-named ‘Bond 23′ was due for release in mid-2012, with Kate Winslet’s current husband, Sam Mendes directing and ‘Frost/Nixon’ scribe, Peter Morgan in charge of the script. But the projected budget of $200-million was way out of MGM’s reach.

‘We do not know when development will resume and cannot comment further at this stage,’ EON Productions, the firm that makes the Bond films told the Mail.

Part of the Hollywood fabric since its humble beginnings in 1924, MGM is now drowning in debt after a long string of flops. Several buyers have emerged, but the deals all went sour. The studio is now run by creditors and production has been cut to the bone.

And the fallout is huge -  The last Bond movie, 2008’s ‘Quantum of Solace’ with Daniel Craig as the lead hauled in $594-million – the largest box-office take in the franchise’s history. So they’re losing big money. And 007’s special soundstage at Pinewood Studios near London (Read more...)

Justin Bieber tops ‘Most searched for’ list

[HMG] – For reasons most people would find hard to define, Justin Bieber has outdone Lady Gaga to become the most searched-for person on the entire internet.

The search engine, ‘Ask Jeeves’ says the mop-headed teen also causes three times as many searches as soccer star, David Beckham – despite the fact that the UK audience the site mostly serves have barely heard of the singer.

Lucky them.

“It’s as though to millions he only exists on the net,” said a Jeeves spokesman.

And this is not 16-year old Justin’s first time at the top of a list – He’s been the foremost ‘Trending Topic’ on Twitter for months in a row, and in April he placed seventh on ‘The 50 most popular Women on the Internet’ list, compiled by Co-Ed Magazine.

But those who admire his atonal mumblings will also tell you he’s been the target of internet pranks. Hackers recently exploited a flaw in You Tube that sent users to porn sites instead of his clips, or showed messages claiming Justin had died, joined a cult, or that his mom had signed on to grace the pages of Playboy.

All were untrue.

The Bachelorette couple Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski call off engagement

(HMG) – Who says Reality TV romances aren’t going to work?  Well pretty much all statistical data really, as something like 14 Bachelor couplings have now failed.  Add Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski, who proposed on The Bachelorette, but have now called off their engagement, to the list.  The writing may have been on the wall for this one just like Jake and Vienna, as rumors of illicit goings on, before and after the show pointed to trouble.  Swiderski supposedly juggled two girlfriends while wooing Harris on the fifth season of the ABC show (and even reportedly slept with one after proposing to Harris, but before the finale aired).  Of the split Harris, 29, tells Us, “I love him and I’m really sad, but I have to look out for me.”

Levi Johnston Issues Apology to Sarah and Palin Family

(HMG) – Wow looks like Levi Johnston has either had a big change of heart or is seeking to appease his baby momma, whom he is rumored to have reconciled with. After publicly sniping with Sarah Palin last year,  insinuating the former Alaskan governor refers to her Down syndrome baby as retarded and that she and her husband, Todd, were on the verge of divorce, Levi wants to make amends.

“Last year, after Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry. Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true,” Johnston tells People. “I have already privately apologized to Todd and Sarah. Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize. So to the Palin family in general and to Sarah Palin in particular, please accept my regrets and forgive my youthful indiscretion. I hope one day to restore your trust.”

Kendra Wilkinson tells of shameful past in new memoir

(HMG) – One wouldn’t predict someone with Kendra Wilkinson’s past to come out the other end as a popular celebrity, but that’s the nature of today’s reality TV culture.  Wilkinson opens up about her troubled past in her new book, ‘Sliding into Home,’  in which she describes her teenage battle with drugs and stripping.  Speaking on the Today show yesterday, she told Kathie Lee and Hoda: “I kind of lost myself for a little bit. I wasn’t a druggie stripper. I was a very good person doing it. But I was kind of still embarrassed about it.  Kendra started taking drugs at age 13 when her dad left the family and secretly became a stripper before moving into the Playboy mansion at 18. She recently had to tell her mom about the stripping so she wouldn’t learn about it through the book.  By the age of 15 she was abusing drugs, “feeling suicidal” and “cutting myself,” even checking into a mental hospital.

Dannii Minogue gives birth to first child

(HMG) – Congratulations to Dannii Minogue and her partner, Kris Smith, who are the new proud parents to a baby boy. The 38-year-old X-Factor judge announced via her spokesman the birth of Ethan Edward Smith on Monday. Minogue’s spokesman Simon Jones said: ”Mother and baby are doing well and Dad is very proud. They request their privacy at this special time to adjust as new parents.”

The baby boy is Minogue’s first child and, according to reports, the baby was born in Melbourne. Dannii’s elder sister, Kylie, who has been busy promoting her new album Aphrodite, is reported to be flying over to welcome her new nephew in the near future. Minogue’s pregnancy has kept her away from the recent X-Factor auditions, with stand-ins including Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who won Dancing With The Stars this past season.

Judge rules Lindsay Lohan violated her probation and sentences her to 90 days in jail

(HMG) – Judge Marsha N. Revel has ruled Tuesday that Lindsay Lohan violated the terms of her probation when she failed to comply with the weekly attendance directive for alcohol education classes in a drunk driving case and then sentenced her to 90 days in prison.   Judge Revel did not use the SCRAM bracelet alarm incident at the MTV Movie Awards as a basis for deciding but did state several instances over the last few years in which the actress lied about taking drugs and drinking.  The case dates all the back to 2007, when Lohan was charged with DUI in two separate incidents.

“It’s like someone who cheats but doesn’t think it’s cheating if they don’t get caught,” Revel said.

Before sentencing, a tearful Lohan addressed the court, saying “as far as I knew I was in compliance with my programs.”

“I wasn’t trying to get special treatment,” the actress said. “I have to provide for myself. I have to work. Having said that, I did everything to balance my jobs and showing up. I’m not taking this as a joke. It’s my life. It’s my career…I take responsibility for my actions. Oksana Grigorieva claims photos prove Mel Gibson ‘brutal attack’

[HMG] – In a predictable sequel to earlier stories it’s now being reported that Oksana Grigorieva, the estranged girlfriend of Mel Gibson not only has tapes of Mel in an allegedly racist tirade, but also has photos of the results of a beating.

This latest stage in their ongoing feud centers around photos which Oksana claims show her bruised and bloodied after being supposedly beaten by the 54-year old actor.

“You can see Oksana’s two front teeth were broken, and there are bruises over her face,” a friend who has seen the photos tells Radar. “They will come out eventually, and she’s prepared to use them in their court case.”

The apparent assault took place at Mel’s Malibu mansion on January 6th. But Mel’s lawyer has emphatically denied his client has been, or was ever violent toward the 40-year old Russian singer.

So why, you may ask, is Oksana sitting on photos? Why not go to the cops right after the ‘fight’ ?

“Oksana was scared to death to go to the cops,” claims the source. “Any battered woman is. Most women never speak out and suffer for years.”
