A few weeks after the singer had supposedly landed the role of Eponine in the upcoming big screen version of Les Miserables - alongside such acting stalwarts as Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anne Hathaway - Broadway World now reports the artist will be replaced in the film by Samantha Barks.

As seen below, that actress took on the same character in a 2010 tribute concert to the production, and was subsequently linked romantically to Nick Jonas.

Breaking Dawn Surpasses $700 Million in Box Office Haul, On Verge of Twilight Saga Crown

Published on January 23, 2012 By

The Hollywood Gossip

It may have been the worst reviewed of all chapters in The Twilight Saga, but Breaking Dawn: Part 1 has successfully sought revenge at the box office:

The film blew past $700 million in global box office haul this weekend and, with receipts not even counted yet in Japan and China, will undoubtedly soon be crowned the highest-grossing installment in the franchise.

New Moon grossed $709.8 million during its run.

This exciting news comes just a few weeks before Breaking Dawn is released on DVD (February 11!) and also coincides with talk that the franchise could extend beyond part 2, which hits theaters on November 18.

Underworld: Awakening Wins Weekend Box Office

The Hollywood Gossip

Kate Beckinsale's return to the franchise propelled Underworld: Awakening to a big box office win this weekend. George Lucas' Red Tails came in second in revenue.

Those out to see Kate, who plays leather-clad vampire warrior Selene, kick some serious behind managed helped the film bring in $24.3 million its opening weekend.

Was it worth it, though? Movie Fanatic's Underworld: Awakening review is mixed, but in strictly financial terms, it easily topped Red Tails' $19.4 million haul.

Mark Wahlberg's Contraband grossed $12.2 million, causing it to fall from first to third in the box office. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close pulled in $10.5 million.

Nos. 5-10: Haywire ($9.0 million), Beauty & the Beast 3D ($8.6 million), Joyful Noise ($6.1 million), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol ($5.5 million), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($4.8 million), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ($3.8 million).

Final Poster for The Hunger Games: Released! Awesome!

Published on January 21, 2012 By

The Hollywood Gossip

With just over two months to go until the release of The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has released the final poster for this sure-to-be blockbuster.

It features Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and it's just as awesome as all other promotional material so far:

But while the excitement over The Hunger Games builds each day, and while its core audience may also be comprised of teenage girls, Josh Hutcherson recently spoke to E! News and stopped the comparisons to another franchise right then and there.

“I’m not a huge fan of the comparisons to Twilight just because I think it’s a very different world," the actor behind Peeta said. “I understand why people make the connection just because it’s a popular teen book... but the story is really more about Katniss and her survival. There’s definitely less romance.”

Volkswagen Super Bowl Ad Preview: Dogs Turn to "The Bark Side"

Published on January 20, 2012 By

The Hollywood Gossip

The higher-ups at Volkswagen must be big Star Wars fans.

For the second straight year, the car maker is using George Lucas' epic saga as inspiration for a Super Bowl commercial. A year ago, Little Darth Vader was a huge hit.

So much so that the company released a teaser for the ad early here in 2012. The sequel, featuring a canine chorus barking a familiar tune, may be even better:

Barking along to the ominous "Imperial March" dressed as Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and an Ewok, these mutts will surely get people talking.

Or howling, one might say ... see what we did right there?

The appropriate title for the spot: "The Bark Side." Amazing.

The Twilight Saga to Continue Past Breaking Dawn?!?

Published on January 19, 2012 By

The Hollywood Gossip

Might November 16, 2012 not mark the beginning of the end for The Twilight Saga after all?

While we're still nearly a year away from the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, Lionsgate President Jon Feltheimer is already looking at life beyond the final installment of Stephenie Meyer's novels - and he has an idea for how to milk the franchise for all it can produce.

Robert Pattinson Promo PhotoBreaking Dawn Poster: Jacob

“It’s hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn’t have ongoing value,” Felthemier said of the possibility that another film could be made. “It’s an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration."

But the source material is tapped out. How could the studio back another Edward and Bella-based saga?

“Maybe go back into some of the back stories,” Feltheimer suggested. “There’s been talk of shorts and different new media, too.”

Only time, and screaming Twihard reaction, will tell. But what do you think of this plan? Do you want to see Twilight extended beyond Breaking Dawn?
